The 17 year old daughter lost her left eye when her father threw a book at her, after finding her smoking at home in Málaga.

A 63 year old Danish man, named with the initials J.S.S., has been sentenced to a year and five months in prison by the Provincial Court in Málaga after he threw a book at his 17 year old daughter, injuring her in the eye. He threw the book when he discovered her smoking at home, and she blew smoke in his face.

In the end the daughter lost the use of her left eye in the incident which took place in August 2005.

Because the man has no previous record and the sentence is less than two years, under Spanish law the prison term is suspended, but he will have to pay 60,000 € in compensation also ordered by the court.

The court noted that immediately after the accident the father took his daughter to hospital and paid for her medical care, even when she decided to return to Denmark.
