Remedios Sánchez told the Barcelona Court that the killings were carried out by an Argentinean woman who sub-let from her.

Remedios Sánchez, the 50 year old woman from A Coruña, who is accused of killing and robbing three pensioners in Barcelona, and of trying to kill another six between June and July 2006, has denied in court any involvement, saying that the crimes were carried out by an Argentinean woman called Mari, who worked as a health worker and who had sub-let a room from her.

The Prosecutor has asked for a 172 year sentence for Sánchez, who told the court that she would be incapable of doing such a thing.

Three out of four pensioners who declared to the Barcelona Court on Tuesday had no doubt in identifying Sánchez as their attacker, and they also recognised jewellery which was found in the accused home as being theirs.

The case is expected to end on Thursday.
