Two Spanish soldiers killed in a military helicopter crash in Bosnia today have been named as Santiago Hormigo from Miguelturra in Ciudad Real, and Joaquín López from Talavera de la Reina in Toledo.
They were part of the EUFOR multinational force in Bosnia-Herzegovina and were travelling with two others German soldiers who also died in the BO-105 craft, which is generally used for the transport of troops.
The Spanish Ministry of Defence said it happened in the area of Banja Luka, close to Travnik, when the craft crashed into a mountain for reasons which are still to be established. Its understood the accident happened in an area known to be of complicated access.
Spain had three helicopters in service in this mission, including the one which has crashed today.
A full investigation by the defence department has been launched, but it’s understood the men all died instantly when the craft hit the ground.
