Recent good weather has brought a flood of new arrivals to the Canary Islands.

Four of the paperless immigrants who arrived on Tenerife on a Cayuco boat last Saturday have now died, and a fifth is said to be in a serious condition. Another 13 people remain in hospital since their arrival. They were admitted to two different hospitals on the island.

The recent good weather has seen a marked increase in the number of illegal arrivals – 463 over a 48 hour period. On the last arrival on Thursday morning there were 72 people on board the single Cayuco boat, including a woman and two children.
