email this article Jiménez Losantos presents the morning programme on the Church-owned radio channel COPE, and has recently been found guilty of slander. The Catholic Church in Spain, the owner of the COPE radio channel, has distanced itself from the comments of the station’s morning presenter, Federico Jiménez Losantos, after he was found guilty earlier this week of slandering the Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón.
A statement from the Bishops Conferencia Episcopal said that the responsibility for the ‘stars’ of the station rested with the station boss, Alfonso Coronel del Palma. The statement says that the Bishops are not businessmen, but they admit that the declarations of Losantos have led to a wide debate on his programme.
Several Bishops have publically criticised the tone of the radio presenter, and the insults he often launches from his microphone.
