email this articleThe coach hit a lorry on the Bi-63516 people have been injured when a coach hit a lorry and then fell onto train lines in Guernica. It happened at 1235 yesterday on the Bi-635 road between Muxika and Gernika.
Two of the victims are in a very serious condition, and another nine are seriously hurt.
Firemen had to rescue several people who were trapped in the wreckage, and one man who lost an arm had to be evacuated from the scene by helicopter. The arm was placed in ice in an attempt to save it.
25 people were travelling on the coach at the time. It was travelling between Bilbao and Gernika. The driver lost control of the vehicle when trying to avoid the lorry which was reported to be travelling at 80km/hour on the 50km/hour road. He broke through a crash barrier and the bus ended up on the train tracks. Fortunately there were no trains travelling at the time.
