Local health officials say people should not sunbathe between the hours of 12 and 4.

Five people are told they have skin cancer every day in the province of Málaga. The Head of Dermatology at the Clinico Hospital, Enrique Herrera, said that one in ten of them was the most aggressive form of the disease, a melanoma. The average age when a melanoma appears is between 55 and 57 years old.

The number of cases has risen by 30% since 2000 although part of the increase can be put down to more information on the disease.

He told the 20minutos newspaper that people should seek shade from the sun between the hours of 12 and 4 and that the amount of sunscreen being used should be as much as six teaspoons. He also predicted an increasing number of cases among Spanish construction workers in forthcoming years.
