The judge decided to suspend the case when the defence lawyer said he could not attend.
The court case against the man known as ‘El Solitario’, Jaime Giménez Arbe, was suspended today when his defence lawyer failed to appear in court, saying he had other more important appointments to attend to in Gijón and the Canaries.
El Solitario, the Loner, was for 15 years on the run Spain’s most wanted man, and now faces charges for the alleged killing of two Civil Guards, Juan Antonio Palmero and José Antonio Vidal, in Castejón de Ebro in Navarra.
The hearing should have started today in court in Pamplona and has to proceed quickly as the temporary extradition order granted from Portugal expires on July 31.
