The numbers are lower than hoped for by the organisers, but have served to prepare the venue for next weekend.

The first weekend of the Rock in Rio festival to be held in Madrid saw some 100,000 attend the mega concert site at Arganda del Rey, a half hour’s drive from the capital.

Top acts over the first weekend were Alanis Morissette, Jack Johnson, Neil Young and El Canto del Loco at the start of what is the most expensive series of concerts ever promoted in Spain.
The venue also has other attractions such as a big wheel and aerial runways and a whole series of other possibilities – you can even get married there if you want to.

Many families and a public of all ages reflected the wide range of musical styles on offer, but was nevertheless strange to see, along with electric cars used to get from one part of the venue to another.

Next weekend will have the answer to the question – will Amy Winehouse turn up?
