Feliciano López is also through to the quarter finals of the Championships.

Rafa Nadal is into the last eight at Wimbledon after beating the Russian player, Mijail Youzhny, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1 in two hours and ten minutes.

The player from Mallorca will be pleased it was a short match, especially as he twice needed treatment to his right knee in the first set, and now goes on to meet the local favourite, Andy Murray.

Nadal said he was happy with how he had played and to be in the quarter finals. Asked about the injury, Nadal said that he did not know the origin of the pain, but he would investigate as he felt ‘something behind the knee’. He said he thought that he was fine.

Nadal is not the only Spaniard into the last eight. Feliciano López from Toledo beat the Cypriot player Baghdatis in three hours and 41 minutes, 5-7, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 and 8-6, and now meets Safin.
