email this article The appointment of Alicia Sánchez-Camacho is to be confirmed in the party's regional congress this weekend.Mariano Rajoy, the national leader of the Partido Popular, is said to have ensured that one of his loyal supporters, Alicia Sánchez-Camacho, has been chosen as the new leader of the party in Cataluña. The change comes following the resignation of Daniel Sirera and a poor series of election results in the region.
Sources in the party in Cataluña indicate the change will be confirmed in the regional congress which takes place this weekend.
The resignation of Sirera also implies the withdrawal of the other candidate to preside the party in the region, Alberto Fernández Díaz. Daniel Sirera will remain as President of the PP group in the regional parliament.
