126,000 domestic violence attacks in Spain last year

The latest attack took place in Vélez-Málaga yesterday when a man run down his ex wife with his car in the presence of their 7 year old son.

Last year saw 126,293 denuncias placed in Spain for domestic violence against women. Most of the attacks, 28,266 were carried out in Andalucía and on 809 occasions the victim was under age.

37,794 protection orders were issued over the year according to the data just published by the General Council for Judicial Power, CGPJ. Men made up 98.5% of the aggressors, 24,668 of them Spanish and 13,078 foreigners.

In the latest incident a Velez-Málaga man has been arrested for running down his ex wife in his car, in the presence of their 7 year old son. Several witnesses say the man accelerated to hit the woman in Calle Herreros in the town. He has a previous record of domestic violence.

The alleged aggressor is reported to have tested positive for alcohol, cannabis and cocaine. The woman is now recovering in hospital under observation, while the child is now with the paternal grandparents.
