Some workers in the Town Hall say the measure is exaggerated.
Workers in Torremolinos Town Hall have been told that they have to inform their supervisor every time they leave their desk, and that includes when they go to the toilet. The workers have to write down the reason and duration for their absence, with each reason having a code. Going for a cigarette outside is number 1, while going to the toilet is number 2.
Union CCOO local representative, Pepi Cuenca, has admitted that some civil servants have abused the time taken for a cigarette in the past, even admitting that some non-smokers go outside for a while, but nevertheless the new measure has not been accepted well by the workers who describe it as exaggerated.
A municipal spokesman told Diario Sur that those who did not comply could be fined. ‘We are talking about public money, and we can’t allow some to shirk off’, he said.
