Mariano Rajoy closes the Catalan Partido Popular Congress

The leader of the Partido Popular opposition in Spain, Mariano Rajoy, yesterday criticised what he described the irresponsibility of the Prime Minister for not concentrating on the economic crisis but instead moving ahead with legislation reforms which Rajoy said divided the Spanish people on questions of abortion, laicism and euthanasia. Rajoy said no body loses sleep over whether immigrants should be given a vote in local elections.
Mariano Rajoy made the comments in his speech to close the XII Catalan Partido Popular congress, where the P.P. leader gave all his support to the new regional president there, Alicia Sánchez-Camacho. Rajoy’s candidate was elected to the post over the weekend, but by a slim margin with 56% of the votes.
The party’s vice-secretary, Ana Mato, was booed by some delegates during her speech on Saturday, over how the regional party is represented in Madrid.
