The desertion of a Socialist councillor has allowed a motion of censure against the Mayor of the town to proceed.

As forecast, the Partido Popular has taken control of Dénia Town Hall following a motion of censure placed against Socialist Mayor Paqui Viciano.

The motion was successful because one of the Socialist councillors, Juan Collado, failed to support his party in a tense meeting where allegations of real estate interests and irregularities were alleged.

The new P.P. Mayor, Ana Kringe, said that the motion was justified by the irregularities seen in the town and that the councillor who had swapped sides would be working in ‘an anti-corruption commission for the good of the town’.

The outgoing Mayor however alleges that ‘individual interests’ are behind the new team who want to control the new PGOU general plan in the town.
