email this article Aznar noted that he himself had led the party, to the two unique victories for the centre-right in the time of Spanish democracy. The previous Partido Popular Prime Minister, José María Aznar, has criticised the current leader of the party Mariano Rajoy, and his decision to move the party to the political centre.
‘Renovation is adding, not eliminating’ said Aznar, making his comments in an interview with TeleMadrid. Aznar noted that the centre right, led by himself, won two elections in Spain, and he said the party needed clearer ideas, attractive messages, and should use the best talent it could.
Aznar also commented that he had no regrets about Spain’s participation in the Iraq war, and that Basque terrorists ETA not only wanted to kill him, but also to change Spain.
Aznar’s ever harsher criticism of Mariano Rajoy comes despite the fact that he himself selected Rajoy to replace him as party leader.
