Juan Cardona and his Austrian deputy were arrested on Tuesday this week.

The instruction judge in court 5 in Dénia has granted bail, with charges remaining, for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Benitatxell who are under investigation for alleged town planning corruption in the Marina Alta. The two were arrested on Tuesday this week, and will now have to attend the court on the first and 15th of each month.

Independent Mayor, Juan Cardona and Deputy, the Austrian woman Hannelore Rheindorf, are accused of bribery by demanding a 50,000 € backhander for the reclassification of land for building.

Also granted release by the judge yesterday was a third person, a German lawyer who is accused of acting as an intermediary.
Reporting restrictions remain in the case.
