The Ex Mayor of Marbella told the court in Granada that the deals were drawn up by civil servants and all he did was sign them.

The ex Mayor of Marbella, Julián Muñoz, has told the Provincial Court in Granada that he never negotiated any of the real estate deals made in the town. He told the court that the agreements, some 700 under consideration, were always drawn up by civil servants, and that he just signed them, not knowing the details of the real estate deals. He said he had to trust the civil servants.

Muñoz also denied any friendship with the Granada builder José Ávila Rojas, who faces an eight year prison sentence for tax fraud, Muñoz said that he had seen him once in the Town Hall in Marbella.

Julián Muñoz was declaring as a witness in the case yesterday where a deal signed in 2001 between Marbella Town Hall, at the time under the rule of Jesús Gil y Gil, and the Granada builder José Ávila Rojas, which led to two real estate deals which are now under investigation for the tax fraud.
