email this article One of the arrests took place in Fuengirola yesterday where one of the group was on holiday. It’s now known that among those arrested in the police swoop yesterday against the ETA Vizcaya commando, was Libe Aguirre, another terrorist who was arrested in Fuengirola where she was on holiday. Searches were carried out of premises on both the Costa del Sol and in Lisbon as part of the police operation. A total of nine arrests have been made so far, including the head of the group, Arkaitz Goikoetxea.
Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, commented that the Vizcaya group was the most active ETA unit and the one most wanted by the authorities. He told the press that the structure of the group was more complex than that normally seen in ETA, and despite the arrests in Andalucia and Galicia the security forces do not think the terrorists have any infrastructure in those areas.
The police operation yesterday was codenamed ‘Mike Papa’ in honour of the Guardia Civil, José Manuel Piñuel, who died in the bomb explosion at the barracks in Legutiano, thought to have been placed by those now in custody.
