email this articleThe Supreme Court has ratified a decision for compensation payments to be made by Vélz-Málaga Town Hall. The Supreme Court has ordered Vélez-Málaga Town Hall to pay 156,000 € compensation to each one of 18 residents of the Ipanema building in Torre del Mar.
The court has thus confirmed a sentence in a lower court which ruled the residents should be compensated for years of noise between 1990 and 2003 which came from the bars below the block which is located in the area of the Torre del Mar ‘movida’.
The award is thought to be the largest amount ever ordered in Spain for noise compensation, and follows a similar case brought by a Dutch couple who were paid 115,000 € for the noise in their apartment in the Puerto Marina in Benalmádena last year.
