The meeting is being seen as making the peace after the events at the Ibero-American summit last year when the Spanish Monarch told the Venezuelan President to shut up.
King Juan Carlos and the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, meet today for the first time since the episode last year at the Latin American Summit when the Monarch asked Chávez ‘Why don’t you shut up?’ when he was interrupting the speech of the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
The two meet today to pass the page on the matter at the Marivent Palace on Mallorca where the Spanish Royal Family are spending the summer.
Chávez then goes on to Madrid where he has a meeting planned with the Prime Minister at the end of his tour of Europe.
Spanish leader of the opposition, Mariano Rajoy, has meanwhile called on Chávez for the maximum respect for Spain and democracy.
