A group of 35 were rescued from a sinking Zodiac in high seas on Friday

The Coastguard on Friday rescued 35 men of sub-Saharan origin who were trying to reach Spain by boat. Their half-sunken six metre long Zodiac boat was spotted in rough seas close to the Isle of Alborán, with a rescue operation being put into place at 11am. The immigrants were transferred to a coastguard vessel and taken to Almeria port where they were attended to at 4pm by the Red Cross. Reports say there were two adolescents among the travellers.

And in a separate incident nine Algerian male immigrants were arrested on a beach in Aguadulce after a local person saw their zodiac boat on the beach close to the Portomagno hotel. All now face repatriation.
