Almuñécar cracks down on abandonded sunshades

Everyone has heard the Jokes about the German people getting up at the crack of dawn to place a towel on a sunbed to reserve their place for later in the day.
In Spain the usual tactic is to place a sunshade on the beach to reserve your pitch for later, but those visiting the Granada town of Almuñécar this year should be warned.
They are issuing 36 € fines for what they consider to be ‘abandoned sunshades’, or any other item, collecting them and taking them to the municipal deposit. In addition people are being charged an additional payment for every day the item is held in the deposit.
Last year they collected more than 200 sunshades, and the Town Hall warns that municipal controls are set to increase in the month of August.
