The bomb on the prom of Torremolinos came too late to make the Spanish papers today.

El Mundo leads with the headline that a judge has been investigating the falsities of De Juan Chaos for the past three years. The paper earlier revealed that some of the ETA terrorist’s academic qualifications which have been key in his early release were in fact false. El Mundo notes that the court in Getxo has however archived the case they highlighted where Chaos is alleged to have presented his sister’s nursing qualification.
The paper has a photo of three people it describes as the proud successors to De Juana. These are three ETA terrorists who were in the Madrid commando in 2001 and took part in several fatal attacks. One of them told the National Court that she was very proud to have collaborated with ETA.
ABC has a photo of Ángel Larios, a Civil Guard who survived the ETA bomb attack in the Plaza de la Republica Argentina in Madrid – and has a quote from him – ‘It’s worthless that the ETA terrorists sent to prison for 2,000 years only serve 20’.

El País notes that the Mayor of Mondragón has been granted bail of 30,000 €. She is charged with disobedience of authority by not suspending the activities of the ANV party, to which she belongs.

ABC says that Zapatero has offered an open hand to the PNV Basque Nationalists Party despite their organisation of a referendum on independence. The paper notes that the PSOE Socialist party needs nationalist support to pass new budgets.

El País headlines that the Manos Limpias organisation, which opposes the activities of ETA, has businesses interests with people who are charged with real estate cases. The General Secretary of the organisation, Miguel Bernad, who used to run the far right, Fuerza Nueva, is accused of carrying out business with many accused of real estate crimes where in some cases backhanders are alleged.

El Mundo notes that ten days from the start of the Olympic Games in Beijing, the air pollution levels remain close to dangerous.

El País looks at the messages between the Spanish woman, María Remedios García, currently on bail, and the late chief of the FARC guerrillas in Colombia. The paper highlights one where she is alleged to have said ‘I will comply with the instructions which you give me’.

El País highlights with a photo the high tension in Turkey, following the recent terror attack there last Sunday night which resulted in 17 dead and more than 150 injured.

ABC highlights some good news and notes that a new treatment against Aids reduces the viral load by 90% in more than 60% of those given the drug. It’s under test in Barcelona.

Catalan party CiU is reported by El Mundo to be making it clear to the Prime Minister that that a new pact on the regional funding of Cataluña is ‘indispensible’.
La Vanguardia fears that Zapatero could disappoint with an extension to current budgets. He has however, according to El Periódico, guaranteed another Catalan judge on the Constitutional Court.

El Mundo reports that a construction company controlled by the Socialist Party in Extremadura has filed for bankruptcy protection. The company’s name is Econisa who has received tenders for more than 19 million from a public company headed by a ex top boss in the Junta.

El País notes that the Minister for Tax and the Economy, Pedro Solbes, has warned that prices are set to rise even more, and that he has called on everyone to make an effort to overcome the crisis.

And finally,
El Mundo notes that a new opinion poll has said that 73% of people think it was right to suspend obligatory military service, 50.7% think the Spanish army is the right size and only 22% think it is too small.
