email this article The find came after a small explosion in the early hours of yesterday in La Carihuela, Torremolinos, which caused no injuries or damage. The Minister for the Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has said that the device which exploded in the early hours of yesterday under the promenade in La Carihuela, Torremolinos, was a small one. He said it contained a kilo of explosives and that there was no doubt that ETA had been responsible. Despite this it was not thought that the Basque terrorists had any permanent infrastructure in Andalucía.
Mayor of Torremolinos, Pedro Fernández Montes, said that damage from the blast was ‘inexistent’ and noted that the windows of a beach chiringuito just ten metres away from the device were not broken.
During yesterday bomb making material including several detanators, a Smith and Wesson pistol, and information on explosives written in the Basque language were all found in a bag nearby.
Meanwhile, the Guardia Civil have been inspecting an ETA ‘drop off point’ which has been found in a cemetery in Berango, Vizcaya. The site was used by the recently broken up Vizcaya unit and allowed them to leave communications between each other. It’s the third such location to be identified by the authorities.
The French courts have ordered prison on remand for the two ETA activists, Asier Eceiza and Olga Comes who were arrested last Friday near the city of Dijon. They have several charges including carrying out acts with terrorist aims. It’s thought that Comes was part of the ETA Vizcaya commando.
