Lluís Suñé had called on the Catalans to sponsor a poor child from Extremadura.

Comments by a Catalan councillor who wanted to hit back at accusations that the region showed a lack of solidarity with the rest of Spain have back fired.

The ICV-EUiA left wing councillor for Tarragona, Lluís Suñé , has now apologised for an item in his blog where a fake poster called on people in the region to show solidarity and sponsor a poor child in Extremadura. The humour was not appreciated and Suñé apologised saying that he never thought the matter would take on the dimensions it has.

He said he had no intention of upsetting the region of Extremadura and all he wanted to do was to make ‘a small reflection’ on funding balances. He said that he had received threats and insults by phone since the news of the item broke early yesterday.
