The shortage of doctors and surgeons over the summer is of particular note in Dénia.

10,000 consultations and operations have been cancelled in Alicante province this summer because of a shortage of supply doctors to replace those taking their holidays.

The most affected town in the province is Dénia, and patients associations complain that is should not be the patients who suffer the consequences of bad management.

The ‘El Defensor del Paciente’ association has called for the prosecutor to act in Dénia given the situation and what they described as ‘the lack of response’ from the Generalitat regional government. They note that the law considers it a crime to put the life of another person at risk.
