ETA sets off two small explosive devices in Málaga

Two small explosive devices, thought to have been placed by the Basque terrorist organisation ETA, have exploded this afternoon in Málaga, and a third item was deactivated by the security forces.
The first device, of very small power, went off at 1pm on the beach close to the Hotel Tryp Guadalmar, without causing any damage or injuries. Bathers were moved from the area by security forces an hour before after a warning call was made to the Guardia Civil barracks in Benalmádena.
The call also warned of a second device placed in Benalmádena Marina, Puerto Marina, and this went off at 3pm. The port and two local beaches were evacuated, some 8,000 to 10,000 people being moved from the area.
Later the security forces found abandoned material including a pistol and charges on a local rubbish tip and a third device was found close to the A7 road and the MA-21 link road to the N340 by the mouth of the Guadalhorce river, and disarmed.
The pistol is believed to have been stolen by ETA in France.
The attacks in Málaga coincide with the city’s feria celebrations.
