Zapatero asks for time for the full investigation of the Madrid aircrash

Spain’s Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has called for calm following the Madrid plane crash a week ago today, and has defended the air safety systems in operation in Spain.
Meanwhile the identification of the victims of the Spanair crash continues, and given the delay in ID the funerals for the victims have been delayed until September 11. Zapatero promised that the bodies would be identified with the maximum rigour, and also said he was open to the creation of a new aeronautical sub-commission in Congress to take a look at air safety, which has been suggested by the Partido Popular. A week after the tragedy, 35 bodies are still to be identified.
There has been widespread coverage in Spain for the British radio sports reporter, Chris Price, who was commentating on a football match between Bradford and Rochdale yesterday. He compared the defence of one of the sides ‘to the holes in Spanish planes’, and according to the Manchester Evening News, faced dozens of complaints from listeners before being given the sack.
