email this article The D.G.T. traffic authority say that there were few delays on the way back home over the weekend.12 people are reported to have died on Spain’s roads during the weekend trek back home after the August Holiday. The number is less than half that seen last year for the same weekend.
The D.G.T. traffic authority has estimated that 4.4 million journeys were made on the roads between Friday afternoon and midnight last night and say that in general the returning holidaymakers heeded their advice and staggered their returns, thus avoiding any large delays. There were delays on the V-21 into Valencia and on the A7 into Málaga for a time.
At Barajas airport and other across the country there was heavy air traffic and tension among Spanair travellers as the company faced long delays on some routes. Two of their planes took off more than eight hours late, one with an 11 hour delay. We now know that the families of three of the French people to die in the Spanair accident in Madrid on August 20 are taking legal action against the company, the first to do so.
