The accused had only been released from prison the previous week.

The Guardia Civil has arrested a 56 year old man who is charged with hitting his 83 year old mother with a baseball bat at her home in Láchar, Granada. The man is also charged with trying to explode a butane gas canister in her home.

Two Guardia Civil patrols from Pinos Puente rushed to the scene after the woman pressed the red alarm button on her remote home help system. On their arrival they found the son had taken refuge in the kitchen where he had cut the rubber tube to the bombona. As they entered the kitchen the son pulled out a lighter, but they managed to overcome him in time.

He now faces charges of attempted homicide and the making of death threats. He had only left prison last week after serving 13 years for murder.
