The Spaniard is joined in the quarter finals by Tommy Robredo.

Rafa Nadal has made the quarter finals of the US Open. The Spaniard had a close match against the United States player Sam Querrey, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6, and 6-3 in a match which lasted more than three hours. He now meets Mardy Fish and it’s as far as Nadal has ever got in the competition.

One other Spaniard, Tommy Robredo, has joined Nadal in the quarter finals after beating the French player Jo Wildried Tsonga.

Nicolás Almagro went out despite having two match balls against Muller.
