It is the first time that the Spanish Government has confirmed the stop-over of a flight thought to have been carrying prisoners to Guantanamo.

The Spanish Government has confirmed to Judge Ismael Moreno that one of the CIA flights suspected of taking prisoners arrested in Afghanistan in October 2002 to the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba, made a stop-over at the Rota military base in Cádiz.

It’s the first time that the Ministry of Defence has admitted the stop over indicating that the plane spent several hours on Spanish soil.

The judge is now asking for the naming of the people on board the flight, according to newspaper El País. The judge is investigating all the reports of stop-overs between 2002 and 2006, and has asked for witnesses to such flights among military personnel.
