email this article A woman died in Coslada in Madrid when washed away by the flood waters.The arrival of Autumn in Spain this year has seen a storm bringing heavy rain to many parts of the country. One woman has died, several people have been injured and thousands of travellers have been affected by the weather, with alerts still in place in Cataluña, Aragón and the Valencia Community this morning.
The death came in the Madrid town of Coslada where a woman went into the street suffering from a panic attack, only to find herself washed away by the flood waters.
Train services between Tarragona and Vandellós were interrupted for three hours because of flash flooding, with RENFE Spanish railways reporting that nine trains containing 1,900 passengers were trapped for a time. The train line at Archidona in Málaga was blocked for ten hours because of the rain with travellers having to transfer to coaches to get between Antequera and Granada.
In Lucena in Córdoba, a man needed hospital treatment after being injured when his car was washed away in a flood.
Two flights into Reus airport were transferred to Girona and Barcleona because of a storm early yesterday, according to AENA.
The long range weather forecast for Autumn indicates that rainfall will be more irregular than normal, in line with changes predicted because of climate change, although the total rainfall over the season is expected to be close to normal.
It’s expected to be slightly cooler than normal for Autumn, especially in the NE of the country.
