Junta de Andalucía gets tough on building irregularities in Málaga province

The Junta de Andalucía has announced that it is stepping up its building inspections in the areas of the Axarquía and the Guadalhorce valley in Málaga province.
A new team of 25 inspectors are now on the look out for illegal building across the province as a whole, but Juan Espadas, the Regional Councillor for Housing and Land Control, said that the Axarquia and the Guadalhorce would be subjected to a ‘miniscule’ inspection. The new team of 25 will be further strengthened by another 11 before the end of the year.
Espadas said the Junta was particularly concerned at the growth of illegal housing in rural areas, and that there were zones where a great deal of work would have to be done to restore legality.
The new team of inspectors have the brief to investigate, proof, and issue reports on any irregularity and have the legal right to enter any place to carry out an inspection without previous warning and to propose the measures they consider opportune. Those members of the public who fail to collaborate with the inspectors face penal action.
