Permission has been granted by the Supreme Court, against the wishes of the Junta de Andalucía and central Government.

Almuñecar Town Hall has received permission to carry out a local referendum on future town planning policy.
Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides, from the Convergencia Andaluza party, said he was pleased that the Supreme Court had agreed with him against the prohibition which had been ordered by the Junta de Andalucía, and central Government.

The referendum on the new PGOU Urban Plan will not be politically binding, but it does have relevance at a political level. Officially it has to take place in 30 days of the court ruling, and it is unclear whether the question will simply be the approval or not of the PGOU, or worded differently.
