The bodies of the couple were found in their rural cortijo in Motril.
The bodies of a retired Civil Guard from El Ejido and his wife have been found in a rural cortijo in Motril.
Both the bodies showed signs of violence, with the woman found tied up, and the man covered with bruises which were intially thought to be defensive wounds.
The Guardia was currently off work for mental health reasons but had been working as a security guard in Almería.
The bodies of 51 year old Manuel Herrera and his wife 41 year old Rosario were found at the ‘Herrera’ cortijo in the Puntalón in Motril. The family said they were unaware of any problems between the couple, although police sources have indicated that the Civil Guard did have one complaint against him for domestic violence, and had been issued a distancing order away from his wife. Despite this the couple were living together again.
Ideal newspaper reports today that police think that the Guardia killed his wife with a circular saw, with four deep cuts into her neck, shoulder, arm and leg, and it was the last of these cuts which led her to bleed out. He then killed himself using a drill.
