New measures to fight fraud are to be announced next week in Spain.
The fight against fiscal fraud has become one of the main concerns of the Spanish Government.
The Cabinet has just approved a Royal Decree which is about to become law on its publication in the Official State Bulletin. This gives more power to the Fiscal Fraud Prevention Plan which was introduced in 2005, and the details will be made public next week.
What is known already is that Government wants to crack down on the movement of 500 € notes in Spain, and new investigations will follow up on payments made in cash.
Another area of investigation is when there are ‘hidden rents’ when taxpayers benefit from deductions for the purchase of their home, but then generate extra income through rental. It’s reported that to investigate that fraud, power use at the home is to be revised.
Greater customs controls on the international movement of money are also expected.
