13 new cubs have been born in captivity in Andalucía this year.
A record number of 13 Iberian lynx cubs have been bred in captivity in Andalucía this year, leading to a certain overcrowding at the recovery centres at El Acebuche in the Doñana Nature Park, La Olivilla in Jaén and the Jerez Zoo.
Facilities have already been doubled at El Acebuche.
Under the program 52 lynx are controlled, 28 captured from the wild and 24 born in captivity. When numbers reach 60 more than a dozen of the cats will be re-introduced into the wild each year.
Despite the success the Iberian Lynx remains the most threatened species of cat on the planet.
