The snow remits in Spain

There is now a high risk of avalanches in the Pyrenees.

The storm which has brought snow and low temperatures to much of Spain is now remitting, but tyre chains are still needed on 40 mountain passes across the country and another 16 remain closed to traffic, all on the secondary road network.

There is a high risk of avalanche now in the Pyrenees, and yellow alerts for poor weather remain in force in six Spanish regions. Snow alerts remain in force in Cantabria, Burgos, the Basque Country and Navarra.

There is a warning of heavy rain and high winds on the Balearics. Strong westerly winds also forecast for Melilla, the Cantabrian coastline, the North of Galicia and the SE of Castilla-La Mancha.
The snow line is now between 700 and 1000m in the north of the country.

Generally temperatures will see some recovery across the entire country, but another cold spell is on the way and will hit many areas after the weekend.
