SEPLA pilots have been holding an unofficial work to rule since December 4.

Iberia has started disciplinary action against 41 of its pilots claiming they have been taking strike action over recent weeks. The action is likely to be in the form of fines but could see the pilots being suspended without pay or even sacked by the company.

Iberia estimates that the unofficial work to rule being carried out by SEPLA pilots caused the cancellation of more than 500 flights last month with more than 5,000 more delayed.

The pilots say they want a new wage deal and are also concerned about merger plans with British Airways. Sources say the Spanish pilots consider that the British airline cannot see more growth at Heathrow, but it can at Barajas.

Talks between the pilots union and management restart tomorrow, Wednesday.
