It comes after Nadal had a particularly easy earlier round.

Rafa Nadal has been knocked out in the quarter finals of the first official tournament of the new tennis season. He was beaten in Doha by the French player Gael Monfils, 6-4, 6-4.

The Frenchman was seeded 5th in the championship and took care of Nadal in an hour and a half to win a semi-final place against Andy Roddick.
