The case had been brought by the protest group Foro Ermua who say they will appeal to the Supreme Court.
The court case in the Basque High Court, TSJVP, against the lehendakari, Juan José Ibarretxe and the General Secretary of the Basque Socialists, Patxi López, has been archived.
The politicians were charged with alleged disobedience, with five of the izquierda abertzale for holding talks with members of ETA’s political wing, Batasuna, including Arnaldo Otegi, during the cease fire in 2006 and 2007.
The decision to archive the case was a majority one and carried with the vote of Manuel Díaz de Rábago, who considered that there was a local of legitimate accusation in the case which had been brought by the protest group, Foro Ermua. They say they will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.
Ibarretxe has spoken of his satisfaction that the senseless case had ended, and has blamed the President of the Basque Country Supreme Court, Fernando Ruiz Piñeiro, for the case reaching court. He said he hoped that political dialogue would never again be sat on the accused bench.
