More immigrants come ashore on the Canaries and in Almería

The Canary Island boat was the first one to be intercepted in the area for the past two months

The first patera small boat bringing immigrants to the Canary islands seen in the last two months, was intercepted overnight off the northern coast of Lanzarote.

Coastguard services say the boat was intercepted at 10pm after being spotted carrying an indeterminate number of paperless immigrants.

Meanwhile another two boats carrying at 40 immigrants was spotted off the Almería coast. The first, carrying 26 adults from Algeria was seen when 50 miles to the SE of Carboneras, and the second, with 14 Moroccans on board was intercepted when 14 miles to the SE of the same point later. All the travellers were male and only one showed signed of hypothermia after being escorted into port in Almeria.
