The family of the 43 year old are claiming that hospital treatment for his obesity was too slow
It has now been revealed that a 43 year old man who weighed 213 kilos and who died last Saturday after being rescued from his home by the fire service after he fell and broke his hip, was to have undergone emergency obesity surgery in the Gregario Marañon hospital in Madrid this coming Wednesday.
The man was such a size that the only way the fire service could get him out of the flat to take him to hospital was on a lift from over his balcony, a process which took them over three hours, but the man died on the way to hospital.
His family say that he has been waiting for surgery since July 2005 and say the Madrid health service have been too slow in dealing with the case. The health service denies that, saying that many tests are needed before surgery in such cases as it is a very dangerous and delicate operation.
