It's part of a new city-wide ban on drinking in the street

Three years after setting up a specific area for the purpose in the Paseo de los Curas near the port, Málaga City Hall has decided to ban the ‘botellon’ weekend drinking parties in the city as part of a new law which prohibits drinking alcohol in the street.

It means Málaga has followed the examples set in other cities some time ago, such as Sevilla, Cádiz, Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia.

As part of the deal bars in Málaga city centre have agreed with the council to halve their prices. PP councillor in the city, Carolina España, said that the decision had to be taken to allow the building works which will open the port up to the rest of the city.

However there were many more attending what should have been the last bottelón in Málaga on Saturday and users of the social networking site Tuenti are promoting a ‘macrobottelón’ to be held in the city next Saturday.
