There were no more giant killings in the King's Cup games played on Wednesday

Rumblings continue over the future of Manuel Pellegrini as the manager of Real Madrid following the side’s 4-0 defeat by lowly Alcorcón in the King’s Cup on Tuesday night.

The trainer is expected to remain in place for the next league game against Getafe and also against Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, but there is already a replacement waiting in the wings; Ex national side trainer Luis Aragonés. Reports indicate that he has the support of a large section of the players.

The Chilean Pellegrini has been in the Real post for just 110 days, over which time criticism of him has grown, although most internet polls blamed the players for last Tuesday’s debacle.

Meanwhile Barcelona came away from León with a 0-2 win in the first leg of their fourth round of the King’s Cup, and look likely to reach the last 16 of the competition after the return leg in two weeks time. Both goals came from Pedro in a side which saw many of the top names rested. There are concerns about the continued poor form of Bojan in the cup.

Wednesday night’s King’s Cup results:

Alcoyano - Valencia 0-1
Rayo Vallecano - Athletic 2-0
Celta - Tenerife 2-1
Hércules - Almería 2-1
Murcia - Deportivo 0-1
Xerez - Osasuna 1-2
Zaragoza - Málaga 1-1
Getafe - Espanyol 2-0
Cultural Leonesa - Barcelona 0-2
