Messi laments Barcelona's own goal from Piqué - EFE
Back to one point difference at the top of the Primera
The Chairman of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, has given his support to the club’s Chilean trainer, Manuel Pellegrini.
Speaking in Italy, ahead of the club’s Champions League game against AC Milan, he said the manager’s job was safe.
His comments come after Real Madrid were beaten 4-0 by lowly Acorcón in the King’s Cup last week.
The side did better on Saturday with a win at the Bernabéu against Getafe 2-0. Real looked poor until Raúl Albiol was controversially sent off, which seemed to stimulate the side to play some of the best football seen by them for some time. Both the goals came from Gonzalo Higuaín.
Barcelona could not believe it when they suffered an equaliser own goal from Piqué in the last seconds of their match away in Pamplona against Osasuna. The two points lost make a big difference at the top of the table.
Cameroon player, Pierre Webó, has kept Mallorca in the European placings at the top of the table with his goal against Racing in Palma. Racing seeing their first defeat away of the season, while for Mallorca it was their fifth consecutive win at home.
A grand goal from Mendunjanin in injury time denied Espanyol a victory against Valladolid. It ended 1-1 after Luis García had put the ‘periquitos’ ahead in the first half.
It was 1-1 also between Deportivo and Sporting after a lively game in Riazor. Deportivo dominated the play and hit the woodwork on more than one occasion.
The troubles continued for Málaga, beaten albeit by a single goal by Valencia. A mistake by Munua handed the goal to David Navarro. At the other end Málaga had their chances blocked by Cesar in the Valencia goal.
Zaragoza got a welcome lift at the bottom end of the table with a win in Almería 2-1 with the goals from Lafita and Pulido. Ortiz scored for the Andalucian side.
And there were more goals than play in the 5-0 victory for Villareal against Tenerife. The action came in a six minute period at the start of the second half.
