The blaze broke out in Cerro del Piojo on Thursday morning
A wildfire which broke out in Benalmádena was brought under control on Thursday morning after dozens of homes in danger from the blaze were evacuated from a nearby urbanisation.
The blaze began in scrubland in the Cerro del Piojo at around 9.30 am, forcing the occupants of some 50-60 properties on the urbanisation El Olmedo to be moved to safer ground. It’s understood from Diario Sur that the Holiday World hotel complex and the railway line were also under threat at one point.
High winds affecting the area were hampering the fire-fighting operation, but the blaze was reported to be under control shortly before 1pm.
