The 21 year old woman faces up to six years in prison
A woman who snatched a new-born baby at the Poniente Hospital in El Ejido last year faces a possible six years in prison when she comes up for trial at the Almería provincial court later this month. The prosecutor in the case has also applied for 3,000 € compensation to the baby’s parents.
Named by Europa Press as 21 year old M.I.M.M., the woman was dressed up as a nurse when she grabbed the child from his hospital room on 14th October 2008, telling the parents that she had to take him away for some routine tests. Her non-regulation uniform however roused the father’s suspicions and security guards managed to capture the woman before she could leave the hospital with the baby in her arms.
She told officers in her initial statement to police that she had no intention of kidnapping the child or causing him any harm, but simply wanted to experience the sensation of holding the new-born in her arms.
